Venetia Stanley was an important part in Asquith's personal and political life. She was his "darling". His letters to her, outlining his thoughts and feelings towards events and his political contemporaries are a valuable historical source.

Queen Mary wanted them banned from society in its strict sense as women found them difficult to curtsy whilst wearing them. A suffragette's skirt of choice as it lended mobility and ease of access through doors and windows whilst hacking works of art.
